DISCOVER CLEVELEYS – More Than a Pint
A good pub is about much more than the beer it serves. It’s where friends meet after work, families celebrate special occasions, charities raise money and communities come together. That’s what makes Cleveleys’ pub scene special.
About this series
Discover Cleveleys is a six-part editorial series from Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre CAMRA. In each edition we’re exploring the pubs, clubs and people that make Cleveleys a great place to enjoy a pint and why the town is worth another look.
More Than a Pint
Ask ten people what makes a good pub and you’ll probably get ten different answers. Some will talk about the beer. Some will mention the welcome they receive. Others will remember a favourite landlord, a live band, a quiz night or the friends they meet there every week.
The truth is that good pubs are about all of those things. That’s certainly true in Cleveleys.
Throughout this series we’ve explored the town’s established pubs and the newer venues that have added fresh ideas in recent years. Together they’ve created a pub scene that’s well worth discovering.
But buildings alone don’t create a great pub scene. People do.
Every week, Cleveleys’ pubs and clubs become meeting places for friends, families, neighbours and visitors. They host birthdays, anniversaries and reunions. They welcome people calling in after work, catching up over a quiet pint or introducing someone to a favourite local for the first time.
Those moments might seem ordinary but together they become part of the life of the town.
Many of the venues also organise events that bring even more people through their doors. Beer festivals introduce drinkers to breweries they may never have tried before. Live music gives local performers a stage and customers another reason to spend an evening in town. Quiz nights, charity fundraisers and themed events bring together people who may never have met otherwise.
These events don’t just support individual businesses. They help create a sense of community. That’s one of the reasons Cleveleys’ pub scene feels so welcoming.
Every venue has found its own way of contributing. Some are known for traditional cask ale. Some for live entertainment. Some for community fundraising. Others for simply providing a warm welcome and a comfortable place to spend time.
None of those things happen by accident. They take commitment from licensees, managers, staff and the many regular customers who continue to support their local. That’s worth recognising. It’s also one of the reasons visitors enjoy spending time in Cleveleys.
You can arrive as someone looking for a pint and leave feeling like you’ve discovered something much more valuable. A welcoming atmosphere, a friendly conversation, a place where people know your name.
Perhaps that’s why so many people return. Not because they’re searching for the same beer, because they’re returning to the same people. That sense of community is something that can’t be created overnight. It grows over years through the efforts of businesses that care about the people who walk through their doors. Cleveleys has plenty of places doing exactly that.
And that’s what makes its pub scene about far more than a pint.

But there is one building we’ve hardly mentioned.
Next time we’ll look at why.
